larry smithWhat if Larry Smith wouldn’t have gotten hurt? How would the game have gone?

He was playing great, had a TD pass(Mac didn’t) and some great runs(Again, Mac didn’t).

Really, I think we could’ve won. No joke. I really have a new-found confidence in Larry. He is the future of this team – a bright future of this team.

Still, I cans IF all I want, we still lost.

At the Half

Where was this earlier in the year? This Vanderbilt is outstanding, scoring 28 points in a half, and their sticking with the ACC’s top team.

The Vandy we’ve been seeing, is lucky to score 14 in a game, and  is 0-5 in conference play.

I don’t know about you, but I like the first choice more. If we play like that, we can beat anyone… This Georgia Tech team is good and don’t you think otherwise.

So, what about Warren and Zac? They have every point for us – two TDs each.

Anyway, I’ve run out of time. I’ll be sure to have a post-game for ya’.

After One…

I’m almost to excited to type!

A 14-7 lead on the Nation’s 11th ranked team, I couldn’t ask for more! Zac looks back to form, and Warren continues to impress!

The only dark spot in the quarter, would be Larry Smith’s injury. He was looking better than ever, you could feel his confidence growing.

Anyway, I’m gonna get back to the action – see after the half.

VU’s Deadly Freshman Running Backs

Alright, we’re 2-6 on the season and have the Nations’ 11th ranked team coming into our house. Lets face it, we’re not in good shape…

Still, we have a defense that can usually keep us in the game, at least for a little while. We also have a talented young running back, who’s known for his big-play ability.

On the dark side of things, our defense is way better against the pass than the run – and running is all Georgia Tech does. Not to mention, we’re haunted with a passing game that never seems to connect.

You want to know the scariest part of it all? Georgia Tech prefers running the option – similar to another opponent, Army. (A loss I can’t get over)

Here’s the thing, Georgia Tech runs the option better than any team I’ve ever seen. And the talent level – it’ll the best we’ve played a year.

I hate to be like this, but I think we have a better chance beating Florida…

Keys to the Game
  1. Find a rhythm in the passing game - If we have any hope at all, Larry and the receivers must get something going, and quick.
  2. Control the Option – I can’t stress this enough, we have to slow down the Yellow Jacket’s running game.
  3. Warren Norman – We have to use our best weapon, and that’s obviously Warren. He has to continue getting big plays for this offense to thrive.

Ah, that sucks…

We we’re so close to having a player in a NBA lineup! We get football players making it every year (Jay, Earl, DJ), but never any NBA players.

Oh, by the way, Derrick’s talent level wasn’t what kept him out. It was the money.

You Better Watch Out…

WARNING TO ALL SEC TEAMS: Watch out for Vanderbilt tailback, Warren Norman.

Warren Norman

Vandy Freshman RB, Warren Norman

No kidding, he’s the best weapon we’ve ever had…

The Future

Maybe the most exciting part out about Warren, is his graduating class. This guy is a true Freshman – just imagine what the senior Warren Norman will be like.

Putting Up Numbers

Coming into the USC game, Warren was 3rd in the SEC in total yardage (somewhere around 130, I think). I haven’t seen the exact stats, but I believe he exceeded his game average in the South Carolina game.

In the Record Book

Already, Warren is in VU record books. He’s the only Vandy player – EVER – to have 2 kick return TDs in a career. Let’s remember, he did this in a span of two games.

Warren is also in the Big Book with, another Freshman, Zac Stacy. The two both had over 100 yards rushing in our season opener – the first time two freshman had both rushed for over 100 yards in a game.

Top 5: Vandy @ USC

1. SEC Refs. They really are the NCAA’s worst. That was an obvious fumble at the beginning of the game, the ball was clearly falling through his arms before his knee touched down. As for the controversal USC touchdown… I’m sure you can tell by the cross-out that I’m shocked by the call– his foot was no where near in-bounds.

2. Larry Smith. I’m often known as the Smith-defender, but I’ve got to start pointing out his inaccurate throws. Most notably the deep-miss to Jamie Graham and the short-miss to John Cole on our final drive of the game.

3. Warren Norman. Even in the darkest of days, I can find a ray of light. And today, that light would be Warren Norman. Who is, no question, the most talent running back and return man I’ve ever seen my ‘Dores have.

4. John Cole. I really think Cole should be more involved in our gameplan. He’s by far our most outstanding wideout and seems to be the only catching-consistent guy on the field.

5. Play Calling. This is a joke. We got up by 3 and from then on out we played sissy-ball, running it three consecutive times and then punting it away. See how that worked out for us? We also went away from the QB-keeper (which was working) and started giving it to Jared/Warren every time– an obvious give-away to the USC defense.

Overall, I’m depressed at the outcome… No way around it, I’m mentally depressed. We’ve lost all of our pride and the defense is starting to give-up after watching all of the offense’s 3-and-out drives.
